Rules and Regulations as of 2012
DRIVER SAFETY
1.
Regulation racing crash helmets must be
worn at all times while in car.
2.
Seat belts must remain buckled during
all heats and main event.
3.
Driver is to stay in his car during
entire event, except when directed by officials.
4.
It is the responsibility of the
driver to be aware of all safety rules during the event.
5.
Drivers must have VALID
Drivers License.
6.
If driver is under the age of 18 a
parent/guardian signature is required!
7.
Drivers must attend Driver-Pit Crew
Meeting held at 7:45 pm.
8.
Ramming of driver’s door or disabled
cars WILL NOT BE PERMITTED!
9.
THE DRIVER OF THE CAR
IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR PIT CREW AND MAY BE DISQUALIFIED BECAUSE OF
THEIR
ACTIONS.
10. DRIVER (OWNER)
MUST HAVE PIT PERSONNEL WITH HIM/HER AT
TIME OF REGISTRATION.
CAR REGULATIONS
1.
Vehicle inspection and registration
will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. ANY
DERBY CAR
NOT IN THE INSPECTION
AREA BY 7 p.m. MAY NOT BE ALLOWED
TO PARTICIPATE.
2.
NO PICK-UP TRUCKS, VANS, FOUR WHEEL DRIVES, OR
COMMERCIAL
VEHICLES.
3.
All chrome strips, glass, and the rear seats
MUST be removed.
4.
Fenders may be cut away from wheels. No
other metal may be cut away, except over
carburetor and roof for escape purposes. (Holes cut
in hood must be free from sharp edges)
5.
TIRES:
a.
Mud and snow are permissible. Water in tubes is permissible.
b.
No bar or paddle tires will be allowed!
6.
GAS
TANK RULE:
a.
Gas tanks must be removed from under the car and moved to the
rear seat forward of rear
axle. MAXIMUM OF 6 GALLONS
IN GAS TANK.
b.
Gas tanks must be
secured by chains, cable or steel brackets. NOTHING
FLAMMABLE!!
c. Gas
tanks must be made of steel or similar quality. NO
PLASTIC OR ALUMINUM
TANKS.
7.
Holes must be made in the floorboard
around the gas tank for possible spillage.
8.
BATTERY
RULE:
a.
Maximum of 2 batteries per Derby car.
b.
Must be securely attached inside
the vehicle and covered.
9.
Doors
must be chained or cabled shut. Trunk must be chained or
cabled
shut. Maximum - 6
inch spacing. Trunk area must
be visible for
inspection from the rear seat. NO WELDING.
10.
Hood must be chained, bolted, or
cabled.
Minimum - 6 inches on sides. Hole must be
cut
out of the
hood (at least 8 inches in diameter) over the carburetor to allow a
fire extinguisher
nozzle to enter and put out fires. Frame CANNOT be
used for
bolting down the hood.
11.
All
chains and cables used to secure doors, hood and trunk must be strong
enough to tow a
car,
(preferably 3/8" or better).

CHAINED OR CABLED
ONLY!!
12.
NO WELDING OR CUTTING EXCEPT
AS SPECIFIED.
13.
SEAT
BELTS ARE MANDATORY!
14.
Front seat may be chained down. Bucket
seats allowed.
15.
Bumper heights, front and rear, will not
be higher than 24” in height.
16.
Stock bumpers can be tack welded (no
more than 1 inch welds) on outside of mount only.
17.
All chrome strips must be removed.
18.
Numbers must be painted on the roof and
side of the car at least 24”.
19.
Radiators, if used, must be in stock
position. Radiator and/or support CANNOT be
reinforced or modified in any way other than original
configuration!
20.
Engines MUST be chained or
bolted to frame. Engine can be secured at motor mounts ONLY!
21.
Rear deck on station wagons must be open. NO SUB-FLOORS!
22. All
cars entered may be subject to cut-away inspection at any
time before, during or immediately after the Derby. Failure to allow
officials
to do so will disqualify car, driver and pit crew associated with said
car.
OPTIONAL VEHICLE
SPECIFICATIONS

Radiators and fans.

Locked rear ends .

Drivers door may be braced for drivers
safety. Both front doors may be reinforced.
Reinforcement is allowed to extend
6” forwards and backwards of the front doors.

Roll cage.
-
Floor transmission lever and hand
accelerator throttle.
-
Transmission coolers.
-
Electric fuel pumps require oil
pressure or charging system cut-off switch.
GENERAL
RULES AND REGULATIONS
1.
The
officials may disqualify the driver and car any time before, during, or
after
the Derby, if found in violation of
any Derby rules
2.
CARS MAY
BE
DISQUALIFIED FOR:
a. Sandbagging : staying in the
background and doing little ramming.
b.
Getting tied up with another
vehicle too long.
c.
Teaming.
d.
Not moving or making contact with another vehicle on own power at least
once every two
minutes.
3.
PERSONAL
MISCONDUCT AT ANY TIME DURING THE DERBY WILL
RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION!!!
4.
ALL CARS MUST BE REGISTERED AND
INSPECTED BETWEEN 5:30 PM
AND 7:30
PM. CARS NOT
REGISTERED AND INSPECTED BY 7:30 PM MAY
BE DISQUALIFIED! REGISTER
AT DERBY GATE ON MORGAN HILL RD.
NEXT TO
CALTRANS YARD.
5.
Anyone in timer-judging area other than
judges and timers while heat or main event is going may be subject to
disqualification of car you are representing.
6.
Event
coordinators word is final! There
will
be no refunds.
MINI
RULES
1.
If only one car is registered, that car will
be declared
winner by default and be awarded 2nd place prize only.
2.
All side doors must be reinforced.
3.
Welding permitted on side doors ONLY!
4.
Heat will be run before the main event.
5.
4 Cylinder engines ONLY!!!
6.
Must have at least 4 cars for event to run.
7.
